Troy is Just Right

At 4 months, Troy is looking very healthy. At birth Troy weighed 5 lbs. 14 oz., 19 inches long. At his appointment today, being 17 weeks, he weighed in at 14 lbs. 2 oz. (with a heavy diaper), 23 inches long, and a head at 42 cm. His weight and head are in the ~40% ranking and his length is at the 3%. So we thought he might weigh a lot and have a big head, but NO, he is just short. Ha. The pediatrician said this was all normal since he was a month early. In fact, he is a little larger than expected when considering his birthweight.

He got his vaccinations as well. That Tylenol is a lifesaver. Vaccinations are another reason I don't think I would particularly enjoy being a pediatric nurse.

Troy is 4 Months!

Our little Troyster turned 4 months yesterday. His doctor's appointment is on Monday, so I will update the weight etc. then. One of the cutest things Troy has been doing lately is smiling at himself in the mirror. I know that developmentally wise he is not supposed to recognize himself for quite a while, so I think he must assume it is another baby. Either way, it is the cutest thing ever. He acts all shy but smiles whenever I put him in front of the mirror. He now bathes in the bathtub because he is obviously too big for the sink. He hardly ever takes a binky anymore, which is fine. His schedule has been changing every couple days for the last week. I can't straighten his legs all the way because of his fat rolls. I love his chubby cheeks so much. He has this giant bottom lip that makes him look more innocent and precious than he already is.


Troy still loves to kick constantly. He falls asleep at random times (e.g. in the middle of one of his kicking rampages.) He always smiles when you change him. He has a blank stare during his entire bath ever since I started doing baths in the tub. I gave him his first haircut yesterday. He may not have very much hair, but the hair he does have was getting long. I stare at him every morning and just thank Heavenly Father for this blessing. He is my birthday present and always will be. I love you Troy so much more than you know! Love, Mom.

The Rain came Up and the Floods came Down

I recently received a calling in my LDS ward to be a chorister in the Primary. I was so excited to find out I was doing it with a girl that I recognized as a nurse from the BYU nursing program. However, she currently works as a nurse and therefore works on Sundays. Right after I was called they told me she would be gone for the next three weeks.

So, I hit the ground running these past couple of weeks in the Primary. I was able to do some things well (come up with little games for the songs like go fishing, use pictures, etc.) but I mostly felt like I was stumbling through. I kept forgetting the words....and I let them choose their own song to sing a couple of times. Usually this would not sound like a mistake but I was taken back by their version of The Wise man and the Foolish man. Everything was said opposite and they sang so loud I was afraid that the Elder's Quorum lesson would be disrupted in the classroom across from us. I suddenly wondered what it would be like to be an elementary teacher...(thinking of you Melissa and Sarah)

Then the Lord helped me to remember that each child was loved by him and that each one had parents that loved them dearly. What would I want a teacher to do with Troy? DING, have fun with them. I get to sing primary songs for my calling! That is so fun! Reverence is nice but trying to make children sit and be reverent for 3 hours is a joke. Especially when I have the last 20 minutes of those 3 hours. So I am trying to be more creative to keep their attention, not get incredibly loud, make it fun, and make sure they learn the songs for the Primary program in October. The Lord will help me when I feel overwhelmed. If it doesn't go how I plan then that is ok. As long as I have a love for the children and strive to fulfill my calling the best I can, I think it will turn out ok.

p.s. I tried to upload a video of Troy from the video cam and it just said "Loading.." for like 5 hours. Any suggestions?

Wisdom is our hammer!

If you know this line you undoubtedly have seen the WORST movie of all time. In the Name of the King. It actually has some famous actors (Handsome Rob from Italian job is the main actor, Gimli from Lord of the Rings, Burt Reynolds, ScoobyDoo Guy) but the dialogue is painful. Half the time you have no idea what they are saying or what you should be feeling. But after all of this I recommend you HAVE to see it because it is so bad that it is funny. I laughed hysterically when I saw it. Tons of money went into it (65 mill I think) to make it look as close to Lord of the Rings as possible. The music does not match the scenes at all (scary when supposed to be sad) and at one point you think you are at a carnival. Look at some of the reviews for this movie. I truly appreciate well made movies now. Thanks Devin and Sarah for introducing it to us! (It is also much more fun to watch with my brother Devin.)

Here is sweet Cohen! Cohen Todd Kitchen. He is so much smaller than these pictures show. Carseats always plump up the cheeks. A reminder: he was 5 lbs. 10.5 oz. & 18 inches long.

Happy 4th of July!

The 4th of July is Ben's favorite holiday. He gets so excited about celebrating America. However he was a little sad that we do not own a boat and therefore could not spend Saturday morning at the lake. Those who grew up doing that I'm sure can empathize with him. Instead we did other really fun things that Ben, Troy and I enjoyed. First was a ward breakfast which was very tasty with pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon. They even had orange juice, yum.

Following breakfast was the parade. Troy's first parade. One great thing about a parade in Provo, UT is that there will be at least a handful of floats focused on missionary work, ancestory or geneology, pioneers, and even an LDS stake. I also loved the random people or animals such as the Llama fest and acrobatic females on a horse. I must say my favorite though were the floats focused on the army, navy, marines, and other men/women serving our country (even though one of the cannons kept scaring the daylights out of me). I am so incredibly grateful for our freedom. I have no fear whatsoever of praying or going to church. Thank you men and women who are serving the people of this great country!

After the parade we hurried and made pasta salad for the TWO lunches we were going to. My Uncle Brad and Aunt Debbie were serving as mission presidents in Spain and got home on the 3rd I think, so we were celebrating their homecoming! It was so fun seeing all of my Farnsworth relatives. The second lunch was held at the Andersen posterity park. I had not seen a couple of my cousins for so long that I could not believe how big they were! Aaron and Logan especially! Last time I remember being with them was in an Arbys and laughing so hard my mouth hurt afterwards. Devin rounded up a game of ultimate frisbee and the boys played for like 3 hours. I played a little bit but Troy needs to be fed! It was a good thing though because then I got to talk to some of the girl cousins I have so much fun talking to. It is the best having such a ginourmous family. There are a quit a few cousins around my age that are so fun!

That evening we went to our friends, the Kitchens, to celebrate Ashley's birthday and watch the fireworks done by the Stadium of Fire. Our friends are the greatest and the fireworks were spectacular (other than the fact that we thought they were over and they weren't.) I wish I could post some pictures right now but I can't find the camera!! You will just have to wait to see the Llamas.
